Introduction
Under Section 146a of the German Fiscal Code (AO), you as a business owner are required to register your electronic POS system with the tax office. This is done via the ELSTER portal (www.elster.de).
This guide will help you complete the registration correctly.
Requirements
Before starting the registration, make sure you have the following:
✅ A registered ELSTER user account

✅ Login credentials for your ELSTER account
→ (e.g. certificate file, signature card, or security stick)
✅ Information about your POS system and business location

Note: The required data from Shore is only available if you have an active Shore contract (not a test account) and the Technical Security System (TSE) is activated.
Registration Process via ELSTER
Opening the Form
- Log in at www.elster.de.
- Go to Forms & Services → All Forms → Other Forms.
- Select the form "Notification of Electronic Recording Systems (Section 146a Paragraph 4 AO)."
Creating the Notification
- Click Continue to create a new notification.
- Reuse a previous submission: If you've already submitted a notification, you can reuse that data.
New notification without data: Choose this option if this is your first submission. - Fill in all required information.
How to Correctly Fill Out the ELSTER Form

Before continuing with the ELSTER form, gather the following information directly from your Shore POS Manager:
- Log in to the Shore POS Manager.
- Go to Settings → KassenSichV → tab "Notification of Electronic Recording Systems (eAS)."
- Under "Information on the Electronic Recording System (eAS)," you'll find the following required details:
- Type of eAS: e.g. tablet/app-based POS system
- eAS software: Shore Kasse
- eAS manufacturer: Shore GmbH
- eAS model: e.g. iPad
- TSE serial number
- BSI certification ID
- TSE commissioning date
- TSE type: e.g. cloud
- Click "Fill Out Form" to transfer the data directly into the ELSTER form, or have it ready to enter manually.
👉 The information from the POS Manager will help you fill out most of the form. However, some additional details are needed — we'll explain these in the next step.

- For individuals: Enter your name, date of birth, and tax identification number.
- For legal entities: If you run a GmbH, UG, or partnership, enter the company details (name, address, etc.).

Official Deadlines
The following deadlines apply for the digital registration of your POS system:
📅 POS system purchased before July 1, 2025
Deadline: July 31, 2025
→ Registration must be completed by 07/31/2025 at the latest.
📅 POS system purchased after July 1, 2025
4-week deadline: → Registration must take place within 4 weeks of purchase.
