Star Micronics TSP650 Printer (Bluetooth) Troubleshooting
If your Star Micronics TSP650 can no longer connect to your iPad, or you need to reset the device to factory settings, here's a step-by-step guide.
Preparation – Important Before Resetting
Logging Out of the POS App
- Open the Shore POS App.
- Log out using your password.
This prevents the app from continuing to block the existing printer connection.
Checking Your iPad Settings
- Airplane Mode: OFF
- Bluetooth: ON
Removing the Old Bluetooth Printer From the iPad
- On the iPad, open Settings → Bluetooth.
- Look for "Star Micronics" or "TSP650."
- Tap the i icon next to the printer.
- Select "Ignore This Device" or "Forget This Device."
- Turn Bluetooth off.
- Wait about 4–5 seconds.
- Turn Bluetooth back on.
Resetting the Printer to Factory Settings
Important: The reset will delete the previous Bluetooth settings and saved connections.
- Turn off the printer.
- On the back of the printer, find the small hole labeled RST.
- Carefully insert a paperclip into the hole.
- Hold down the RST button.
- Turn on the printer while continuing to hold down the RST button.
- Keep holding the RST button.
- Wait until the printer completes the reset sequence:
- The printer initializes twice, or makes the corresponding startup sounds.
- The LEDs blink or change during the process.
- Release the RST button.
- Then turn the printer off and back on once.
After the Reset
Reconnecting the Printer via Bluetooth
- On the iPad, open Settings → Bluetooth.
- Look for "Star Micronics" or "TSP650."
- Tap the printer.
- Select Pair or Connect.
- Wait until the printer shows as "Connected."
Setting Up the Printer in the POS App
- Open the Shore POS App.
- Go to Settings.
- Open the Hardware or Printer section.
- Select Star Micronics TSP650.
- Select Connect Printer or Select.
- Perform a test print.
Common Errors
- POS app wasn't logged out beforehand: The app may continue to block the old printer connection.
- Printer not removed from Bluetooth settings: The old pairing can prevent the new connection.
- RST not held down long enough: The reset may not have been fully completed.
- Wrong printer model selected in the POS app: Check that Star Micronics TSP650 is actually selected.
