Setting Up the Star TSP 143IIIU-230 Printer (USB)
This guide covers setting up the Star Micronics TSP 143IIIU-230 via USB.
To use the Star receipt printer, first prepare the receipt printer and connect it to your iPad via USB. To do this, you'll also need a Lightning cable, which is included in the standard package by default.
Preparing the USB Receipt Printer
- Take the printer out of the packaging and place it where you'd like it to go.
- Connect the printer to power using the included power adapter.

- Turn on the printer and check whether the front LED lights up blue.

- Now insert the receipt roll. First open the printer's top cover (2) by pressing the lever on the right side (1).

- Insert the receipt roll as shown in the illustration below.

- Let the end of the roll stick out slightly from the printer, then close the cover by pressing down on both sides.

Connecting the USB Receipt Printer to Your iPad
You'll need a Lightning-to-USB-A cable for this, of the kind typically included with an iPad. Follow these steps to connect the iPad:
- Plug the USB-A port on the back of the printer into the left connector (1), and secure the cable if needed using the cable clip on the right (2).

- Connect the other end to your iPad. You'll know the connection is active because your iPad will start charging.
Activating the USB Receipt Printer in the Shore POS App
- Open the Shore POS App on your iPad.
- Tap the arrow > in the top left to open the app menu, and select Settings at the bottom.
- Select the menu item Hardware > Select Printer.
- Tap Star to set the printer as the active device.
Your USB printer will now be used for every print job, while also charging your iPad at the same time.
