Reporting Requirement for Cash Register Systems Starting January 2025

Starting January 1, 2025, new regulations regarding the reporting TSE of electronic cash register systems will come into effect in Germany. These rules apply to all businesses using electronic cash register systems. Here's what you need to know, including deadlines and how Shore is here to assist you.

What is it about?

The German government has introduced new rules as part of its digitalization efforts to register cash register systems with the relevant tax office online. The goal is to prevent manipulation of digital records and combat tax evasion.

Key Information

  • Deadlines:

    • All cash registers purchased starting from July 1st, 2025 must be registered at the respective Finanzamt within one calendar month.
    • In case a cash register is taken out of service, starting from July 1st, 2025, this action must be registered at the respective Finanzamt within one calendar month.
    • All cash register systems purchased before July 1st, 2025 must be registered at their Finanzamt by July 31st, 2025, at the latest.
    • All cash register systems purchased before July 1st, 2025 and taken out of operation by then no longer need to be reported.
  • What happens if you miss the deadline?

    • Failing to comply with the reporting requirement is considered an administrative offense and can result in fines. The amount of the fine depends on the severity of the violation.

How does the registration work?

You will be able to generate an XML report about your TSE in our POS Manager. This report should then be uploaded into Elster. Details such as the TSE number, purchase date, and location of the cash register system must be provided. For businesses with multiple locations and POS systems with TSE devices, a separate registration is required for each location.
