Star TSP 143IIIU-230 Printer (Bluetooth) Troubleshooting

If your Star TSP143III (Bluetooth) can no longer connect to your iPad, or the connection keeps dropping, a targeted Bluetooth reset usually helps.

Follow these steps one by one.

1) Log Out of the POS App First

First, log out of the Shore POS App using your password.

This prevents the app from continuing to block the existing printer connection.

2) Check the Connection on Your Device

Before continuing, check the following on your iPad:

  • Is Wi-Fi turned on?
  • Is Airplane Mode turned off?
  • Is Bluetooth turned on?

3) Remove the Old Printer From Bluetooth

  • Open Settings on your iPad and go to Bluetooth.
  • Select the entry "TSP143…"
  • Tap "Ignore This Device" or "Forget This Device."
  • Turn Bluetooth off.
  • Wait about 5 seconds.
  • Turn Bluetooth back on.

4) Perform a Bluetooth Reset on the Printer

Important: This will delete the existing Bluetooth pairing. Afterward, you'll need to reconnect the printer to your tablet or computer.

  1. Turn off the printer.
  2. Find the RST button: on the back of the printer, there's a small hole labeled "RST." Carefully insert a paperclip into it.
  3. Hold down the RST button with the paperclip.
  4. Turn on the printer while continuing to hold down the RST button.
  5. Keep holding the RST button until the printer initializes briefly twice, or an audible signal sounds.
  6. Release the RST button once the signal sounds.
  7. Restart the printer: turn it off, wait briefly (about 4–5 seconds), then turn it back on.

Result: The previous Bluetooth pairing has been deleted. The printer can now be paired again.

5) Re-Pair the Printer

  • Open the Bluetooth settings on your iPad.
  • Select the entry "TSP143…"
  • Pair or connect the printer.
  • Then open the Shore POS App and select the printer there again (Settings > Hardware > Printer).

Common Errors

  • App wasn't logged out beforehand: The app may continue to block the old connection.
  • Printer not removed from Bluetooth settings: Re-pairing may fail.
  • RST button not held down long enough: The Bluetooth reset may not be carried out.
